I have installed xampp successfully but when I type localhost/xertetoolkits
I get the following:
Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

Error 404

localhost
Apache/2.4.18 (Win32) OpenSSL/1.0.2e PHP/7.0.2g

I have been trying for weeks to get xerte going for use at the charity I work for and keep failing. Can anyone suggest where I'm going wron?
I've downloaded xerte 3.1

If you use localhost/xertetoolkits as the way to start xot, than you have to make sure that you unzipped the contents of the xertetoolkits_3.1.zip in the htdocs folder of xampp.

So suppose your XAMPP is installed in the root of you C-Drive, like in c:\xampp

Than please unzip the installer package in c:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits

Hi (again)
I have extracted all files from the downloaded 3.1 zip file and placed in the htdocs folder of xampp in a folder I've named xertetoolkits on the usb where the xampp is located.
Apache and Mysql are working and show no probs but still I get the url not found message.
I have allowed apache and mysql through my firewall, and both xampp shows up to say sucessful application and on mysql I get localhost/ 127.0.0.1
I am getting beside myself now as I must have installed and uninistalled and emptied the recycle bin about thirty times now.
Any more ideas on where I'm going wrong and why the connection to xertetoolkits can't be made?
Thanks Helen

Can you please get me a overview of the file tree you have on your USB stick?

Is there a setup folder in your xertetoolkits folder?

Are you sure the correct XAMPP is running, i.e. the one from the USB stick?

If you place a phpinfo.php file in htdocs, with the following contents:
Code:
<?php phpinfo();

and then visit
Code:
localhost/phpinfo.php
in a browser, what do you get?

Hi Helen,

I just want to check that you are actually starting Xampp before you are browsing to http://localhost/

Xampp is a program that creates a web server so it needs to be running first and you also might need to make sure that any native web server running in your OS (windows?) is not also running.

Although these were recorded some time ago now with earlier versions of Xerte Online Toolkits perhaps the following two video links might help at least cover how quick it can be to install Xerte once XAMPP is set up and running properly:

Previous Xerte Friday session: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1FkRgjfb0M

Recording of installing XOT 2.1 on XAMPP via the full install method: vimeo.com/95769541
