I've added README files to the media folders in my installation but this hasn't made any difference.
Are we any nearer a fix for this?

At what point do things not happen: just to confirm:

You create a new project: you see the folder for that project being created in USER-FILES?

That folder contains a media folder?

The media folder has write access?

You edit the project, add some pages for example. You can see the .xml file change when you save / preview?

You have appropriate settings in php.ini for upload size (chaps, what are the two settings relevant here?)

I'm sure we've checked all these things, but just to confirm we've not missed aything obvious.

Yes.

Yes.

Write access for? Owner, Group or Others? Folders being created have write access for Owner only, but even if I change permissions to write access for all, I still can't upload to that project.

preview.xml? Doesn't change after it gets created as far as I can see.

>You have appropriate settings in php.ini for upload size (chaps, what are the two settings relevant here?)
I need to know what the correct settings are, also how to edit phi.ini - this is not part of the Xerte installation - correct? Where should phi.ini be located?

Thanks for the continued help.

OK, let's make sure of a couple of things:

The xml file should be changing if you change the project, and hit preview. If it's not changing, there is a problem writing to it. So please test: create a new project, add a title page, preview? You see the title page? Now add another title page? You see that too?

Have you tried uploading through the media and quota tab on the the project's properties? Does that work if you try and navigate to the url provided after upload?

Find php.ini. It will be in your php folder. Open it and search for max_upload_size. What's it set to? Eyeball the other setting relevant to file uploads in there - is anything obvious awry? Send us your file if you want. John knows these setting better than me...
