This is a file permission problem, but I don't have access to a mac to check how that works... I'll try to come back to you on this.

default permissions on xampp on Mac is more restricted than on PC. This crops up regularly and isn't really a xerte specific issue rather a xampp/mac specific issue. Try following the steps outlined here: stackoverflow.com/questions/9046977/xamp...missions-on-mac-os-x
