Interactivity > Decision Tree > New Slider Question

This is one of 4 types of step that can be used for a Decision Tree activity. Two of these require the learner to interact, and their response determines the page they are taken to; one step summarises the decisions that a learner has taken along a pathway; one step presents new information.

The Slider Question presents a question, and learners have to respond by moving a slider along a scale. The range along the scale in which the slider is placed determines the page they are taken to. For example, if learners are asked to self assess how much they had spent on buying clothes in the last year, the slider scale can be configured into a number of zones, and the placement of the slider in a specific zone would take them to a specific Step, which might give feedback on their spending against averages. The zones are not displayed to learners, but work in the background.

Core properties

Property Description Type Additional information
Unique ID The ID for this step Text
Question This has to be worded as a direct question, or a statement followed by a question. Text+ Clearly, the question has to be one to which requires a response that can be paced on a scale, e.g. How much time do you spend on …? How many times did you…? Assess your understanding of everyday spoken French as a percentage of an average interaction.
Unit of answer This could be, for example pounds, times, % (see above) Character/word Default - “%”
Minimum value The value of the starting point on the scale Number Default - “0”
Maximum value The value of the end point on the scale Number Default - “100”
Increment Defines the number of positions on the scale that the slider can be moved to. Number Default - “1”
Initial value This determines the starting point of the slider on the scale Number The default, “0”, places the starting point for the slider at the extreme left on the scale. If you wanted to the slider to start at the midpoint of the scale, you would, for example, set a Minimum value of 0, Maximum value of 10, and an Initial value of 5. In this case the slider can be moved in either direction.
