Well, it really depends on several things:
- How you deploy your LO's
- What you actually want to see

Some possible suggestions:
- Add google analytics to the LO
- Add awstats to your Xerte installation (it scans the webserver logs, and aloows you to see the nr of hits per day/week/month etc. and still is on premise)
- Set up an xAPI LRS and use the Xerte dashboard

Hi Tom,

If Google Analytics were to be added to an individual LO, where would a user add the embed code? I see from a previous post someone suggested the project level page footer. Is that right? Is there a recommended way of deploying your LO if you want to use Google Analytics? For example, if the LO was deployed using the embed code or url link, would that work better than an LO deployed using Deployment zip or SCORM package?

many thanks,
Alison
If you can use Lego, you can use Xerte

I would just add it to an optional script property at the LO level.

Google Analytics will then be part of the LO, so it really does/should not matter how you deploy the LO. It should work in all instances that you mention.

If you would have insatlled awstats to your Xerte webserver, than all Xerte LO's are tracked by default, but that only works if the LO is embedded or started through LTI (is being served by the Xerte webserver).

I am looking to use Google Analytics with Xerte, and I have my Google tag ID (GA4) and gtag.js script. Having read through this thread I have some questions:

1. If using on an individual LO, where should I add the script to enable the GA tracking? Is the process different for a bootstrap? Pasting the script code into the Script OP appears to break the LO as the gtag should come just after the head tag, not inside it.

2. I would prefer to integrate Google Analytics on my whole Xerte installation, as AWStats does not offer the views I need. How can I integrate this for the whole installation, rather than individually for separate LOs?

Many thanks in advance.
