Ah, I didn't read your post properly - Xerte 2.18 is no longer supported and is really end of life. I think you will struggle to find many, if any, examples now that you can work with. Xerte Online Toolkits is the supported version which you should now perhaps look at - creating the functionality within this is no more difficult than filling in a form.
