Error when clicking Play or Publish

Error 500 indicates there is a PHP error.

Can you check the PHP error log on your server?

But this error emanates from the same process as mentioned by Daniel. ie error comes up when clicking on Play or Publish. Error feedback is as shown by Daniel's post. I am not trying to upload any external media.

We have the same issue when playing/publishing content on v3.1 and v3.2, this only affects certain content, e.g. Text, Advanced Images, MP4, Graphics/Sound. A pop up error message displays in the browser, and apache log shows a 500 status error ..
"POST /editor/upload.php HTTP/1.1" 500 - " xerte-beta.bris.ac.uk/edithtml.php?template_id=2 "

The php_error.log does not show any problems, but when updating config.php to 'debug' mode, the debug.log shows the following when playing or publishing.

The sitedetails table, contains mimetypes : text/xml,application/msword,application/x-shockwave-flash,image/jpeg,image/pjpeg,image/png,image/gif,image/x-png,audio/mpeg,application/vnd.ms-excel,application/pdf,application/vnd.ms-powerpoint,video/x-ms-wmv,text/html,video/mp4,video/avi,audio/wav,text/plain,video/quicktime,application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet,application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document,application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation

Problem resolved ..
Our apache ssl_error_log showed the following whenever playing the problem LO's ..
Call to undefined function dom_import_simplexml() in /var/www/html/editor/upload.php on line 105
Problem resolved ... we run our xerte install on CentOS which does not include the extension php-xml by default (i.e. the minimum PHP package), by executing 'yum install php-xml'. we resolved the problem

I suggest the v3 documentation mentions the requirement for php-xml or the installer code be updated to check for this and prompts if missing.
