Xerte OT 2.0 - installation problems

I am stuck trying to install the Xerte Online Toolkits onto a webserver.

When I get to page4.php on the setup I get this error:

Sorry, the system cannot connect to the database at present

This may be because the database server is offline, or this instance of Xerte has not been setup (see /setup).

The mysql error is Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/No-MySQL-hostname-was-specified' (2)

I had warnings on previous pages:

page2.php

Any help in sorting this out would be much appreciated.

Before submitting page3 to page4 check database.php in the root of your install and edit that if not correct.

Sounds like the root folder wasn't writable too?

database.php has not been created at this point

The permission checks were all passed earlier in the installation:

The root folder for this install ([REMOVED]/xerte) must be writable during setup. OK
The setup folder for this install ([REMOVED]/xerte/setup) must be writable during setup. OK
The user files folder for this install ([REMOVED]/xerte/USER-FILES) must be writable. OK
The error log folder for this install ([REMOVED]/xerte/error_logs) must be writable. OK
The import folder for this install ([REMOVED]/xerte/import) must be writable. OK

Hmm there seems to have been a blip with your install - not sure why. My advice would be to go back through /setup and see if it works this time. Follow Ron's advice above and see if database.php is written to root before moving page3->page4. If not then copy database.txt from /setup to / and edit all 5 placeholders manually with the correct values (5 might just be "")

Then change the extension from .txt to .php and go back to the setup pages and submit page3.

We aren't sure why this happens (albeit very rarely) and are investigating, so any warnings that you see on the setup pages may be relevant and we'd really appreciate if you could feed them back to us.

Thanks for all the help. I have XOT 2.0 it working now!

I started again with a clean install.

This time database.php was created - I'm sure I didn't do anything different.

However database_host and database_name were set to "" so I had to add these manually.

I encountered the same warnings on page2 and page_password as I described in my first post.
