Xerte 2.1 Fresh install not working as expected!

Hi,
Have tried to install Xerte 2.1 on our linux box and have been facing a lot of issues throughout in doing so .

1. While installing the package, it stopped at the file_system_check script and saying none of my folders have write access for Xerte to proceed with the installation. All my folders had 0777 mod and apache:apache with the user and the group and still it wouldn't budge. I finally traced down the problem to SELinux and made sure it was turned off for the duration of the install. Maybe a slight warning or some kind of workaround for this would be highly appreciated. Don't mind contributing to the project if needed. I have several Moodle installs on the same server and they have never complained of any firewall restrictions when installing.


2. After successful install, i got the home page, but with the 'guest user' logged in . On refreshing the page,the page goes blank with just the header and the language drop down showing ( albeit any select options). Looking at php_errors.log I get this message every now and then :

Googling this takes me to a mailing list post that says 'the file is not internationalized yet and hence could be safely ignored'.I'm not sure that's still the case but disabling that now didn't make any difference. I've also turned error reporting on for index.php and still see nothing that would cause the page to stop loading after the header.

Using PHP Version 5.3.3

Any idea why this might be happening?

We've never encountered problems with SELinux before. Good to know though.

Do you have any javascript errors?

By default, the system uses guest authentication, this is to test the installation quickly. If everything works as expected (which is not yet the case) you can choose a different authentication method by editing the auth_config.php

Many thanks for your swift reply. One of the JS errors i get using the chrome console window is this :

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot set property 'open' of null for screen_display.js:178
