I'm new to Xerte, exploring 3.3 under MacOS 10.12.3 for use with STEM materials.
I'm not doing well with the Interactive Diagram page, which looks exciting and is of most interest to me.
- Using Firefox, which generally plays well with Xerte, I can't import a diagram to the Interactive Diagram page. The graphical editor page opens and a PNG import file can be selected, but it doesn't appear in the window.
- In Safari I get no editing window, as such. A window with "Save and exit" and "cancel" buttons opens, headed "This text is replaced by the Flash movie" (??).
- In Chrome the graphical editor seems to work, but I can't play the object at all.

Why is the interactive diagram of the most interest to you? What are you trying to achieve? Particularly if you're new to Xerte I would see if you can create what you want with one of the other interactive image based pages like hotspot image, hostpot image connector, annotated diagram etc. If you want shapes over the image add those im something like PowerPoint and then save as part of the image over which you can add hotspots.

Thanks Ron, that definitely helps.

The specific examples I’m looking at are to do with the function of connected ‘box’ components in networks, e.g. logic systems or hydraulic systems. But I’m actually coming at online learning objects from the other direction.

I’ve been writing teaching materials in DITA XML for a few years. There’s a DITA vocabulary ‘specialisation’ targeted at writing assessments and rendering them as SCORM packages, but I’ve never used it and at present there’s no easily obtainable, open-source demonstrator for how to do so.

Since DITA is pretty much 100% semantic, I'm wondering if it’s feasible to transform it directly to Xerte XML input data files as an alternative to online editing. The details of that transformation can of course be tweaked according to what DITA can express and what Xerte can best do. That's what I’m trying to get my head round.
Cheers
Pat
