I am installing on a web server for the first time. 2.0 most recent release. I've been working on a localhost xampp install up until now but I found out that online Toolkits won't publish to Moodle at all - it must be installed upon my web server in order to publish correctly with all the needed files. My host requires database hostname mysql instead of localhost. (This hostname is a dynamically generated mysql server ip address that changes every login session.)

I couldn't get setup to work at all until I hardcoded database.txt with the needed mysql settings. It installed just fine apparently, but now, I'm wondering if the admin login account ever did set up. When I try to run the program for the first time, I get this error messgae.

Setting up of database session failed.
Please notify server administrator.

I am the server administrator and I don't know what to do to get it to run from here. I can't figure out where else to look to find the problem here and correct it. config.php and database.php are seemingly correct. I am the only one going to be using this instance so ldap access Guest is fine - I suppose I could convert to Db if needed, but don't know the settings for that option. The web folder is behind a password protected wall my host service set up for me. I would appreciate any pointers anyone could give me because I am totally stuck.

Hi Rolaine,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems...

Can you check the contents of your database.php file in the root to make sure that the details are all correct?

Hi
it sounds like the main problem is with the database connection - I'm not sure how you deal with that if the IP changes every time unless it works by using the hostname in database.php

However what I can comment on is that leaving auth_config.php as guest is not a good idea - once you have the install working that is. Use static or db - for your needs static will probably suffice. You'll find that in \library\Xerte\Authentication\

"Setting up of database session failed.

Isn't a Xerte error as fair as I am aware.

Which page brings up the error?

database.php was correct, but I tried removing the capital letter in my username and got this error - which is clearly a Xerte error.

Xerte Online Toolkits
Sorry, the system cannot connect to the database at present
This may be because the database server is offline, or this instance of Xerte has not been setup (see /setup).
The mysql error is Access denied for user 'rolaine'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

From <hopeforstartups.org/xertetools/index.php>

It did show me what might be the problem. But I don't know how to fix it - apparently it tried to log me in as rolaine@localhost when it should be logging me in as Rolaine@mysql

As long as it gets the @mysql part correct, the logs are showing that it is connecting to the database and the database appears to have all the tables and fields properly installed. I wonder why setup was able to access the database correctly and get all the way through the pages without any errors but it won't use @mysql at startup. I can't load any pages at all, not even the initial welcome screen when I try to run it.

Is there a way to get the local copy using XAMPP that I have installed on my homebased office computer to create the files needed so I can then upload the lesson modules into Moodle on my server?

Also, I am using yahoo hosting service. They run a Unix environment and Apache servers.
