Steps to upgrade a previous install was created by kentches
All,
I'd like to upgrade my XOT to the latest version. All of the full install downloads include the note "Be sure to run upgrade.php after using this package to update an existing install." But I think I need a few more questions answered...
1. When I upload the new version to the server, do I upload it to the same folder as the original version? Or to a new folder?
2. Do I do a complete install and then the run upgrade.php? Or just upload the files an run upgrade.php instead of all the install steps?
3. Any other hints would be much appreciated.

I apologize if this is clearly answered elsewhere, but I didn't find it.
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Kent

Sorry that we do not yet have more clear instructions.

1. You extract over the top (so in the same location as your previous install. Also, if you upgrade from say version 3.11 to 3.12 you need to extract the full install. If you want to upgrade from 3.12.3 to 3.12.17 you can use the 3.12_update package.
2. After you extract the full package (or the update package) navigate to your xerte installation and add upgrade.php, i.e., <xot url>/upgrade.php
3. That's it. But as with all upgrades and updates it is recommended to have a backup (of both the installation and the database)

It might be old but it's still valid - see the guide_to_upgrading_an_existing_installation.pdf in the documentation folder.
