A hopefully not too stupid question and hopefully not the wrong place to ask it.
I have asked the same question on the mailinglist but as I'm not sure whether that is still active I'm placing it here also.

I'm running XOT 2.1 (update) on a Debian server.
The Xerte installation is accessed through https.
The URL in the table sitedetails in the MySQL database is changed to https://...
The ownership of all the files of the Xerte installation is set to the Apache user.
The authorization to the Xerte site is done through Db.
I create a new project.
I create a Tabbed Navigator object.
I add an image to this object.
If I try to upload the image I get an error : "Upload failed: IOerror".
I can upload the image through the project properties (Media and Quota) e.g. an image with the name "grootte_schakel.png".
I enter the following in the entry field of the image in the Tabbed Navigator object
media/grootte_schakel.png
I've also tried
/media/grootte_schakel.png
In both cases I can see a preview of the image when I press the preview button.
In both cases when I press the Play button the page with the Tabbed Navigator object is not shown.
If I do an "Export (Get Deployment Zip)" and open this in a browser the page with the Tabbed Navigator is not shown either.
When I remove the image the page with the Tabbed Navigator is displayed.

Can anyone point me into the right direction to solve this problem ?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi John,

Did you try the same with a different picture? What happens then?

Hi Inge.
Thank you for your reaction.
I did try it with other images (png format and jpg format).
With every image I got the same error message.
I guess I have done something wrong with the configuration.
What I find very strange is that uploading by using the Project properties (Media and Quota) does work. The image file is uploaded to the corresponding media folder on the server. So I guess the access rights are correct.
However even while uploading an image does succeed by using the forementioned option in the Project properties, I can't use this image with the tabbed navigator object as the object isn't displayed in the preview (by pressing Play) or when opening it in a browser after doing a "Get Deployment Zip". I have attached the Deployment Zip in case anyone can conclude something from this.

Last edit: by jbijnens. Reason: Attaching a zip file apparently didn't succeed.

I asked the same question on the Xerte Mailinglist.
Ron Mitchell suggested a solution. I post the reply of the Xerte Mailinglist here also.
Hi Ron,

Thank you VERY MUCH for your reply.

Uploading and displaying images by using a normal "graphics and sound" page doesn't work either.
The permissions on USER-FILES and underlying folders/files are

USER-FILES : 755 (or rwxr-xr-x)
2-name-Nottingham : 777 (or rwxrwxrwx)
2-name-Nottingham /data.xml : 644 (or rw-r--r--)
2-name-Nottingham /media : 755 (or rwxr-xr-x)
2-name-Nottingham /preview.xml : 777 (or rwxrwxrwx)
2-name-Nottingham /media/grootte_schakel.png : 644 (or rw-r--r--)

I have tried FireFox 36.0 (on both Windows 7 SP1 and Linux Mint 17.1) and InternetExplorer 11.
It doesn't work.
I have just tested it with Google Chrome 40.x and surprisingly enough that does work without any flaws.
This rules out any misconfiguration of the server.
So my guess is there is some JavaScript code that is specifically targeted to Google Chrome and doesn't work on other browsers.
The workaround you suggested with
FileLocation + 'media/grootte_schakel.png'
works also.

Thanks again for the fast reply and the solution for the problem.
I couldn't have found the solution "FileLocation + ...." without a thorough (and much time consuming) investigation of the source code.

Best regards,

John Bijnens
