Unable to Connect to Backend error was created by rckeeling
Hi,

I've just updated PHP on our test version of Xerte and when we try to upload an image we get the error message "Unable to connect to backend."

We are updating PHP to 8.1.12 and our current Xerte version is v3.10.5.

Any advice on how to resolve this?

Regards,

Ross

Hi
You'll either need to upgrade Xerte to 3.11x or downgrade PHP to PHP 8.0.

Hi Ron,

Thank you for this info. I just tried again with PHP 8.0.25 but I am still getting the same error message. Any other suggestions?

Regards,

Ross

Hi Ross
Ok so my quick guess was based on the fact that we didn't implement PHP 8.1 compatibility until Xerte 3.11x but 3.10.5x should work fine with PHP 8.0.
The other common issue following PHP version changes is making sure all the required extensions are also installed in the changed PHP version and you can check the requirements via xot.xerte.org.uk/play.php?template_id=81#systemrequirements

Hi Ron,

Many thanks for your help with this. I have checked the extensions and there were a few missing, however after making sure these were all correct, we are still getiing the same error message. Any other ideas how we can resolve this?

Regards,

Ross

Please set the $development flag to true in config.php (around line 43) and try again.

Then check the apache/php error log for errors.
