We have a user that is converting face-to-face course materials into a Xerte LO for online consumption. They keep running into problems because they need to do an extensive amount of copy and pasting from Word documents, and forgetting to 'clean' the text in an application such as Notepad. Would it be possible to incorporate this functionality into Xerte?

There's a button in the wysiwyg toolbar already that will clean up text you are pasting.

Click the small arrow in the top right of large text fields to open the toolbar.
There's a 'Paste from Word' button on there:
