Hi,
I am busy with a feasibility study for using XOT at Ndla in Norway.
Currently I am testing XOT (version 3.13) installed locally on a Xammp environment. In the release notes from version 3.8.4 I have found a description about sub-templates and the ability to hide available page types also for the default XOT template ( xot.xerte.org.uk/play.php?template_id=81#v38section2 ).
How exactly is this possible in the management area? I am not able to find a form in my management area that looks like the printscreen shown in the release notes and (a copy of the release note image is attached to this message).
A second question about hiding page types. Is it possible to configure to suppress the usage of the simple/advanced mode toggle to authors to avoid that disabled page types are used).
Thanks in advance.

Hi
you should definitely see that sub template option in management. If you're testing 3.13 then the tab is just named Templates.
I'm not sure without checking if it only shows up if the templates folder is writeable but it needs to be for the import to work.
Once you upload a sub template you'll see the options for that template where you can hide page types and yes new to 3.13 is an option to disable the ability for users to switch to normal mode.
However this option was added to 3.13 because there are some bespoke cases where normal mode wouldn't work but we never previously prevented users from switching to normal mode because that's a bit 'controlling' and would apply to everyone not just new users so use that option with care.

Thanks for your reply Ron.
I have that sub-template section in the management area but I have not uploaded a sub-template yet (we need to gather more experience with Xerte before we can start creating sub-templates and themes). I was wondering how we can disable page types for the default templates (which is also described as a possibility it the 3.8 release notes). Attached is a print screen of my mgt. area. The show-button for each (not only the template from the print screen) of the existing templates is not showing a page type list?
You mentioned a 'template'-folder in your reply. Is that this folder: \xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\website_code\php\templates ?

TBH I can't remember back to 3.8 and/or if we ever had the option to hide pages in the default templates but I don't think we did and certainly don't in more recent releases. The original thinking with this was that you could create sub-templates for colleagues that are new to Xerte and simplify what they see but also NOT to constrain what they can do by disabling their ability to switch to toggle 'advanced' mode. That disable advanced mode option has only become available from 3.13 for different reasons and I'm not sure it will ever be added to the default templates.

There is at the moement no way to do this for the default. What we will do in the next release is give you the ability to determine what the default subtemplate should be for your installation.

The intended reason for being able to disable the simple/advanced lider is for subtemplates that also have pugin functionality attached, that beark the working of the subtemplate if advanced mode was selected.

In general we do not like to limit authors.
