Trouble when trying to install Xerte on Windows

I installed Xampp and have the Control Panel up.
I went to the next step by clicking on the website to install Xerte (localhost/xertetoolkits/setup), and I got the following message:
"This site can’t be reached
localhost refused to connect."

I'm not that techie, so any help is appreciated. Thank you!

After you have XAMPP installed and up and running, you need to download teh Xerte install package from this website (it's a zip file) and unzip it in (by default) c:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits.

Then you can browse to http://localhost/xertetoolkits to do the rest of the installation

Ok, what port is your xampp apache running on? It is shown in the Xampp xcontrol panel. If it sais something like 8080,443, than it's runnin on port 8080 and port 443 (you need the first number.

If it is on port 80, the link should have worked (check whether c:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits actually exists?

If it is a different port (for example 8080), please browse to http://localhost:8080/xertetoolkits

Ok, I think I got it to install. After it's done, will I have an icon on the desktop? How do I start Xerte?

Just browse to the same URL again, that you used for installing.

If you selceted the default options, you should now be in the workspace as user guest (which is fine on a local install)
