Error message during install on PC

I'm trying to install my PC - a new install. After installing XAMPP and unzipping the Xerte toolkits in the htdocs folder of XAMPP and starting the install (via localhost setup) process with Apache and MySQL running in XAMPP (as per the Xerte installation guide) I get to the page with all the install details but on pressing submit I get this message:

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function get_magic_quotes_gpc() in C:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\setup\page4.php:28 Stack trace: #0 {main} thrown in C:\xampp\htdocs\xertetoolkits\setup\page4.php on line 28

Then I get no further.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi Paul,

You are probably using the latest XAMPP . This uses PHP 8, and Xerte is not yet compatible with PHP 8. Please use the latest stable release of XAMPP that supports PHP 7 (PHP7.4)

This one caught me out too, esepecially as the requirements check screen told me that PHP version 8 was OK (see attachment). I guess it just checks that the PHP version meets minimum requirements. Could the check screen also flag up if the PHP version is too high?

The next release will support PHP 8 as well.
