I've installed Xerte on a local server http://192.168.1.42/~xerte

When I install it all seems well but when I try to follow the getting started guide and create a project I just get an empty page. (see image attached)

I know this must be a newbie error but where am I going wrong please?

Cheers

Dave

What environment are you using and exactly what steps did you take to install Xerte?
What did the setup routine say about writeable directories etc?

Hi Ron,
Ubuntu 16.0.4 LTS
php 7.0.6
MySQL 14.14
All the folder is 777 as it's a local server.

Installation was download from the website the full 3.5 package
Create new MySQL database
unzip into /home/xerte/public_html/
chmod 777
visit 192.168.1.42/~xerte
follow onscreen instructions.
Use admin to create a new user
Log in as the new user

That was it.

Cheers

The spec and steps seem fine.
What does the browser console say?
Check the site_details table in the database and particularly that the site_url, root_file_path and import_path are correct. All three should typically end with a /
When you create a project a folder with projectid_username_templatename should be created in USER-FILES and inside that folder should be a data.xml and preview.xml If the folder or xml isn't created then there's a configuration or permissions issue.
Directory permissions don't need to be 777 as long as owned by the webserver user. 755 should be fine if that's the case.

Hi Ron,
Database contents look correct with trailing /
Folder created looks correct:
demsley@OrangeServer:/home/xerte/public_html/USER-FILES$ ls
5-demsley-Nottingham index.html readme.txt

Inside that are the data.xml and preview.xml files as well as a media folder.
AFAICS that is all OK.
Output from console has an XML parsing error:

XML Parsing Error: syntax error
Location: http://192.168.1.42/~xerte/edithtml.php?template_id=5
Line Number 1, Column 1:

I'm guessing this is the culprit but I don't have a clue what to do (to quote Sweet)

Any errors in the apache/php log? It looks like a server side error, i.e. one of the required php extensions is not working as expected.
