Dear all,

I have tried to install Xerte Online Toolkit (xertetoolkits_2.1 Version:2.1, 2013-11-04) with PHP 5.5. The installation script checks the version of PHP and reports that it is ok. However, the installation fails and claims that there is no MySQL support.

The reason for that is that the installation script uses
mysql_connect()
to check whether MySQL support exists. This extension is deprecated as of PHP 5.5.0. ( uk3.php.net/function.mysql-connect ). I've checked the Xerte changelog and I could not find any references to this issue.

Questions
  1. Are there any plans to replace this deprecated extension?

  2. In the meantime, is it possible to change config_setup.php so that only PHP versions > 5.2.0 and < 5.5.0 are valid?

It's a bit confusing at the moment because the installation script claims that PHP 5.5 is OK when it is not.

Hi Kalle,

Yes, thanks for raising this. We know about it and it is on our to do list but will need quite a wee bit of work to get it working on 5.5+

I'll log an issue to have the current version updated with a check for 5.5+ and try to get that done sooner.

You still CAN use PHP 5.5. You need to switch off error reporting on deprecated functions. But yes, as John says, it is on our list.
