We have been testing xerte 3.13 on our test server before deploying to our Live site. We have found that the transcript button does not display in the media player in Safari browsers.
Xerte version - 3.13
Safari tested - Version 18.2 (19620.1.16.111.6, 19620)
Mac OS - 14.7
We have a simple xerte learning object using the Bootstrap template. An audio element has been added and an audio file uploaded. Transcript text has been added to the audio element. The transcript button appears in Chrome and Firefox, but not in Safari.

I have checked if this is a known issue for the mediaelement.js, although there are a few issues reported for Safari, this specific issue is not logged in that project.

Has anyone had any similar issues? Has it been resolved? Or is it a browser issue that cannot be resolved in the code.

The issue with the transcript button not appearing in Safari may be due to Safari’s media handling policies, CSS display differences, or JavaScript errors. Checking Safari’s console for errors, inspecting CSS styles, updating mediaelement.js, or forcing the button to display with CSS might help resolve it. If the issue persists, it could be a Safari-specific bug requiring a workaround or an update from Xerte’s developers.

If the transcript button works in Chrome and Firefox but not Safari, it could be a compatibility issue with how Safari handles mediaelement.js or specific CSS/JS rendering differences. Have you checked if there are any console errors in Safari’s Developer Tools? Also, try forcing a re-render by triggering the media player after page load or testing with different aria attributes for accessibility. If it’s a Safari-specific bug, a workaround might be needed—anyone else faced this and found a fix?
