Hi,
I upload the full install to the webserver and run the setup files. Got this error message: "1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1"

I did several googles and it appear that this message is experienced by a number of people. However the solution requires an examination of php code which is beyond me technically speaking.

Is there a layman solution to this please?

Thanks!

Hi,

Could you please give a bit more of information??
The version of software you are using, the environment....
I'm not really expert so I need to figure out what is done in which environment to try to help :)

I've installed XOT 2.1 under Windows 7 pro using WAMP, Apache version .... And so on can just be a good start :)

Thanks in advance.
If I can help I will do for sure...

I use mysql to create a database, and a user. Tie the two together. Gave the user all authority to the sql database, including GRANT*YES.

In the public html, there are drupal files. The xerte files were placed in a subdirectory within the public html.

OK I would suspect (or guess :) ) you are mentioning here XOT (Xerte Online Toolkit).
What alerts me is drupal + sub directory.... I'm not sure it is that easy to manage ;)

If you confirm XOT, you can try this (given that you can make tests on your server).
Download the latest XOT (2.1) and put it right at the root of your www directory (unless you changed it in the config file of Apache).
This makes you having a "fresh" install of XOT...
just one important thing, ensure you give a new database name.
XOT is able to create the database (if the login/password gives enough rights).

As it is a straight install this should at least work.
If no I suggest we start from here as there is no su-dir and, using a 2.1, you may have the same tree as I have here :)

Sorry for the inconvenience... Obviously, as a forum, other people are more than welcome to help.. Again i'm not an expert !
If I can help I will do for sure...

hey Eric, thanks

yes, I am using XOT2.1

I created it on another domain. This time, there are no conflicts - the first two screens show 'OK' in red.

Then came the screen which asked me to input the localhost, db user, db password, db name. That went through successfully.

Then this page: MySQL Database Account Set up page which asked for the db account name for the user and password (both are auto-filled by the system).

Next screen, "Sorry, the attempt to open database using account isaach_gd_ur failed. MySQL reports the following error - 1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1
The account isaach_gd_ur must already exist, and have access to database
Using given MySQL account failed!
Your Xerte Online Toolkits database configuration file is not created! Please investigate the error messages and return to the previous page by pressing the button below!"

The same error message occurs :(

It seems to me that the executed process has limited ability to access the db user. The db user exists and all rights to the db had been granted to it.
