Error trying to 'play' image / management.php

Hello all,

Using shared hosting, today I've installed Xerte for the first time. As it's new to me, I've started Ron's 'My First LO' tutorial, which it's all fine until I add an image (see xerte error.jpg). I can upload a file, select it and preview it, but when I click 'play' I get 'error.' The files are all in the media folder (Media Files.jpg).

Perhaps related to this, I've found I can't save any changes in management.php (see xerte management.jpg) as 'access to these resources on the server is denied.'

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm keen to get stuck into Xerte!

Check and make sure the url and various path details are correct in the site details table. Including whether you are using http or https the url needs to match that.
Make sure the database user has full permissions on the database.
Is there a file named auth_config.php in the root or just auth_config.php.dist? If the just the latter rename that to auth_config.php

Thanks for the speedy reply. Yes, there is an auth_config.php. How do I check database permissions? Is there something in cPanel I should use?

I found this in the database using PHPMyAdmin. The path is right (I've got SSL) - should 'apache' and those file extensions all be set to 'false' like that?

Yes don't worry about the apache and file extension check being set to false those things aren't related to the issue you describe.

Let's backtrack a bit.

I can see that the url in site details is https so that's how you are accessing both the homepage and management correct? e.g. don't try to login and use via http instead of https.

You've said that saving changes to the configuration via management doesn't work? That's why I suggested checking the url and path values and also the database user permissions. e.g. the database user needs full permissions on the database.

How did you create the first project? You logged in with an account (not via management) created a project, added a page or two and added media and when you click play or preview it plays or not?

Can you visit the project properties and make the project public? If not what error?

Use the browser console (F12) when you play - what errors are reported?

Also you said the path is correct are the values in root_file_path and import_path correct?
