Cannot login as admin on new installation,

This is a new (and first) installation of v3.1. The installation seemed to proceed successfully. The application is rendered in my browser (Firefox). I selected Db authentication during the installation. I have checked the sitedetails table in mysql. Here is the result: -

However, when I try to authenticate with these credentials, the login username and password fields immediately clear and there is no login. There is nothing written to any file in the error_logs directory.

The admin account is only for logging in to the management page. Are you trying to login to the normal login page with those credentials? Login to management, create a user account under users and then try normal login with the account(s) you created.

I went in as admin into management to create some users but all buttons are incapacitated.

Can you post a screenshot? Which buttons do you mean?
