Hello. We use v2.1. I wonder if anyone can help us out?

We got users complain that they experience problems of losing their edits when they clicked on Play button, error messages including "Sorry you cannot access this resource", "user ID not set" or "Session ID not set" randomly.

We have changed the session timeout settings on the hosting server from 30 minutes to an hour. However, it seems users are still experiencing of losing their edits and received "user ID not set" or "Session ID not set" message randomly.

I have found this discussion, but I still don't know what should we do to check the problem. Where/what are the settings for the user session that we can change?

Thank you.

Hi
This might be wide of the mark and irrelevant but what do you have around line 86 in your index.php the line that begins with <body onload...?

If that ends with ...onscroll="body_scroll()" onbeforeunload="javascript:logout()">
remove the last bit onbeforeunload="javascript:logout()" so that the line just ends ...onscroll="body_scroll()">

Let us know if that resolves the issue or indeed if it doesn't?

Thanks Ron.

This is the line in index.php. We don't have onbeforeunload="javascript:logout()"
<body onload="javascript:sort_display_settings()" onselectstart="return false;" onscroll="body_scroll()">

Ok thanks for confirming that - worth checking.

You've described this as being random so is this only happening with some users and not others? Are those users all using the same browser and what browser?

Have you verified the timeout settings change? e.g. did you restart Apache and check via phpinfo?

It clearly is session related but is it abnormal or due to authoring workflow? e.g. On the occasions this has happened have these users been typing lot's of text in the editor window with no other browser activity? That's an easy trap to fall into and generally good advice to type and edit lengthy text offline before adding to Xerte but if your session expiry is set to 60mins that shouldn't really be an issue.

What are you using for authentication - ldap?

Sorry questions rather than answers but this isn't really a common issue so probably not a bug in the code - although there are many different revisions/commits so 2.1 installations vary by when they were downloaded and installed.

Hi Ron,
Yes, it's a bit hard to identify the problem. I'm not teaching students, but we got staff sent us this complaints. I tried to collect information from users and see if it's browser or devices problems. I saw one "Session ID not set" error today of a colleague's. He logged on and do nothing on XOT. He talked with us in less than 15 minutes and then he chose an object and clicked on edit button and the error message returned. He had to logged out and logged on again. He was using Google Chrome v.40 and MacBook Air OS10.9.5.

Hi Ron,

Yes, we have changed the timeout on server from 30 minutes to an hour. I guess the server support team has restarted Apache. They run this kind of changes so often. But I will double check with them. The issue was still reported after we changed timeout settings last week.

We use LDAP. It's been reported that student edited their object and lost their edits within an hour timeout limit.

Thanks you.
Jin
