Hi everyone.

I've noticed that there is an issue with alt text in XOT resources. The alt text does not appear wen the mouse hovers over the image and it is not being picked up by some screen readers.

Is this a know issue? Is there a fix for this?

Many thanks!

Hi
No to my knowledge this is not a bug. Alt text is not the same as tooltips. Alt text is meant as an alternative description of the image and is not the same as a tooltip.
If you search for difference between alt text and tooltips you'll find lots of info about that but I can't find the link I usually refer people to about that at the moment.

All that said the ALT text in Xerte should definitely work with all screen readers so can you provide some more specific details?
Also if you can provide an example of where you want tooltips we can advise on that too.

Hi
thanks for sharing the w3schools link Yvonne and of course yes you can add tooltips via source view but I didn't mention that in my initial reply because I'd like to establish the reason for the original post suggesting this is a bug (which may just be an expectation that alt text should appear as a tooltip) and also in what instance is the "alt text not working in some screen readers".
Also from memory I think we have some pages/places where tooltips can be added via the wizard rather than source code so it may be that there is an additional place where that is needed?

Many thanks for clarifying that, Ron. I have always associated the 2 until now but understand they have different functions. I'm waiting to hear from a colleague who is testing the screen reader and will get back to you with an update.
