Squeezing Xerte into a Smartphone - Peter Welch

A #xerte18 session recording
In this presentation I will explore what responsive design is, reasons why online educational resources should be responsive, and how a number of Xerte page types and functions can be made to be responsive. Studies have shown that all UNNC students have smartphones, almost all have laptops, some have tablets and desktop computers and a few have at least one of each. These students have made it clear, however, that their preferred device is their smartphone, but not necessarily to use for study. So it is reasonable to assume that by making online resources more accessible on a smartphone, students will be more willing to access them using that type of device. And either we concentrate on making smartphone-first resources that can scale up, or PC/laptop-first resources that can scale down, but either way those resources need to be responsive.
