Hello,
I hope someone can help. I am trying to install XOT for a personal project. I have very little experience with this sort of thing and I am stuck. I am trying to install XOT onto my web sever using cPanel, but I get stuck at page1 creating the mySql database.

I have made an empty database called xertedb, the username is cl42-xertedb.
I've used localhost as the name of the host
I've tried root amd cl42-xertedb with and without '' as the account username
I've used the correct password for the database
I've tried xertedb and cl42-xertedb with and without ''

And I cannot get this step to work. I mostly get "Access deined for user 'root'" errors. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, I don't know how to edit permissons for things and I don't know where to look to find out. It is probably something really simple that I don't know about. Can anybody help?

This is the error message I get using that

Failed to connect to db: SQLSTATE[28000] [1045] Access denied for user 'cl42-xertedb '@'10.0.44.95' (using password YES)

Thank you for any help!

Two observations:

1. You probably did a copy-paste of the username, because there is an extra space after the username. Please remove that, and try again. (I filed an issue to remove leading and trainling spaces for a future version.)

2. Why does it mention 10.0.44.95? I thought you used localhost for the hostname?

Hello,

Tried again tying everything in to avoid extra spaces

If I use cl42-xertedb as the username and xertedb as the name of the database I get:

SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1044 Access denied for user 'cl42-xertedb'@'%' to database 'xertedb'

I'm afraid I don't know what 10.0.44.95 is refering to, I'm using localhost....

I tried setting up xot on a completley different hosting package on a different domain, in case I has somehow already made a mistake, and managed to get different error messages on that one, despite following the same steps:

Failed to connect to db: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection refused

Any ideas? Thank you for helping, I don't really have the skill to be doing this myself but I am trying to learn!

Best Regards

Eleanor

There are three reasons why you can get this error:
1. The password is wrong
2. The specific user doesn't have permission on the database
3. You're referring to the worng database host

From what I gather, it probably is caused by 2.

Please verify that user cl42-xertedb has full access to xertedb.
