Web hosting

I need to find a new web host for the e-learning I created using Xerte. Preferably cheap or free. It's for a small dive club. If anyone has any suggestions I;d love to hear them. Most of the hosts I've found so far are aimed at e-commerce and not suitable for uploading and running the deployment files.

what kind of costs have you been looking at?
are you looking for access to a Xerte install to be able to edit/maintain your projects or just web hosting?
I don't think you're going to find any reliable hosting that is free.

HI Ron, I am OK with maintaining and updating as I have Xammp installed on my PC and it works fine. It's web-hosting.

I have several e-learning packages about aspects of diving and marine life for our dive club.. I've been looking at hosting packages around $2-3 per month, we don't need anything complicated as there is no e-commerce or emails etc needed. And preferably somewhere where we can use a sub-domain from the provider so we don't have to register another domain for the club. Quite a lot of hosting services only seem to offer sites that will load docs, pictures etc and provide links to other websites not many seem to offer a host that will let us load and run Xerte packages. .

sorry if you're looking for hosting at $2-3 per month I can't help or advise. Except that I would be very wary of anyone claiming to run reliable hosting at that kind of rate.

I recently had a need to research free hosting services and eventually found one that seemed much better than the alternatives, infinityfree.com. It allows 5GB of storage and should support the PHP and MySQL requirements of Xertes, although I have not had a chance to install it as my research was on DAMs. I would however be very interested to know if you are successful in installing Xertes there so please let me know your results if you decide to give it a try.

One thing to be aware of with these low-cost hosts is that these are typically introductory prices that renew after a year at a higher monthly rate (e.g. $10-14) so check the fine print before signing up.
