Hi

I'm trying out the Links / Feeds > RSS Xerte Download Feed page (to share some templates) and just keep getting a 'fetching results' message, but the RSS feed doesn't ever load. I remembered seeing this feature on the Future Teacher site, and checked their resource, and it appears to be doing the same. Each page where an RSS feed is expected, the page just shows the 'fetching results' message. xot.futureteacher.eu/play.php?template_id=613#page4

Inspecting the page it seems to flag the issue as HTTP ERROR 500.

Is this a known issue?

Thanks
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne
Firstly you should find that the Future Teacher resource you linked to is now working including all the pages and links it contains.
Indeed it was the earlier funded part of the Future Teacher Project that funded the RSS download developments and functionality. You haven't provided any details of what you are trying yourself and the issue and cause may be different to what the issue was with the Future Teacher resource. So a few questions:

Are you visiting workspace properties in your install and copying one of the feed links from there?
If you are does the link you are using include username and/or foldername and does either have spaces and so where the spaces exist shows %20?
If yes try manually editing the links you are using and replace each %20 with underscores e.g. username=Future_Teacher%203.0 becomes username=Future_Teacher_3.0

Let us know if that resolves your issue? If not please post more details.

Hi Ron
Thanks for this. I checked the link and it did have % in the URL (I'd copied it from the browser), but replacing it with and underscore hasn't made any difference. I'm guessing that somewhere I've gone wrong with the instructions (as the Future Teacher one now works!).

My workflow was this:
1. In the project I want to share, I went to the Project Properties > RSS page and clicked Yes to 'Include this project in RSS feed's and the 'download your project' option.
2. In the folder where this project sits, I checked the RSS link (and it has underscores in the URL) and copied it.
3. In the project where I want the RSS feed to display, I added a RSS Xerte Download Feed page. I added the RSS link from the folder (from step 2). (xerte.bath.ac.uk/play.php?template_id=2515#page1)

I'm still getting the 'fetching results' message.

Thanks for any pointers you can give.
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne
your steps are mostly correct but you need to add an underscore instead of the space you have at the end of the url e.g. folder_name=Xerte_Guides not folder_name=Xerte Guides

You need to make the projects part of the export feed too if you want the download links to appear and work.

Also I won't put your link here but if you are using Chrome you should be able to verify the feed link is working just by using that in the address bar outside of Xerte or another RSS feed viewer. Although I can't quite remember if that's native Chrome or if I have a setting enabled.

Thanks again, Ron. I feel like I'm so close ...

I changed the space to underscore in the URL and when posted into a browser (Chrome), it looks correct for the project I'm trying to share.
However, when I play/view the Xerte project I still get the 'fetching' message.

Both projects have the RSS options clicked in Project Properties.

I think I might start from scratch and try again! Thanks for those pointers.

Hi Yvonne
close but yet so far! ;-)
I can see that your install is still 3.10.5 and I'm not sure from memory (and don't have time to check right now) but there may well have been changes in relevant code between 3.10.5 and 3.11x that I'm testing with and that the future teacher install is on too. Certainly your feed link doesn't work for me in 3.11x either so it's either the version difference or a server difference. There are many other reasons to upgrade to 3.11x anyway so I would request that first and then try again once upgraded and report back here if there are still issues.
In the meantime if this rings any bells with one of my colleagues I'm sure they will reply in due course.
