This page allows you to synch a wide variety of content with audio or video. The audio or video is displayed in one panel, and other types of content in at least one other panel - the maximum number of panels is 4.
The Interactive Video page in Interactivity offers similar functionality, but
or view at Xerte Page Types - Media: Media Lesson (opens in new tab)
The Media Lesson page can have a complex structure. Here is the page structure for the demo page shown above. It comprises two panels; the Media Panel, and another panel titled here Other Content.
In this example, there are 6 sections of text synched with different sections of the video added through the Media Panel. If you view the demo you will see that some sections remain on screen when the next section of text is displayed, and some sections replace existing content. Text 5 also includes an image, but this is not shown in the page structure.
Clear Panel displays an empty panel for a period of time, and then you can see that a Multiple Choice Question has been included.
This example has only one “Other Content” panel, but additional panels can be added.
When you add a Media Lesson page to a project, unlike most other pages, you are provided with the first two levels of the project structure. At the top level, the settings apply mainly to the layout of the panels and any tracking of learner performance that you wish to add. At the second level you have the Media Panel and a panel for other content. Here are the core properties for the top level.

After you have added the media, you need to add the other content and synch that content to sections of the audio or video. Click on the last item in the page structure.
Give this panel a title and then add content from the options listed. Click on items in the table below for more information on their properties. Most of the items allow for the audio/video to be paused while other content is displayed
Item | Description |
New Clear Panel… | This presents an empty panel starting at the synch point that you enter. It ends at the synch point for the next item in this panel. This is the only property for this item, so no further information is needed. |
New Text Content... | Displays some text. This text can either replace any text from the previous item, or add to it. If necessary, pausing the audio/video gives the learner time to read the text. |
New Slideshow... | Adds a Slideshow, which you create within Xerte. Again you may wish to pause the media while the slideshow is playing, to avoid competing demands on attention. |
New Multiple Choice Question... | Adds a Multiple Choice Question. The properties are very similar to the Interactivity > Multiple Choice Question page type. |
New Media... | Adds a second audio or video recording. |
New Embed Web Page... | Embeds a web page within the panel. Note that some web pages cannot be embedded. |
New RSS Feed... | Embeds an RSS Feed within the Panel. This provides a summary, in real time, of changes made on a webpage, or of posts to a forum. |
New Embed XOT Project... | Embeds a Xerte project within the panel. You can embed the whole project or just a page from it. |
Please note that New Google Map is a deprecated Item from Version 3.12 onwards.
