Is there a way to add alt tags for hyperlinks and topics with XOT or is this something that is available in the developers version? This is a request that has come to me from our web developers.

For example:
I have used the page template media-graphics and sound, then right clicked on a phrase, selected hyperlink, pasted the url but there isn't away to add an alt tag for that.

When our web developers have inspected the elements (using Chrome browser), it just lists topic1,topic2 etc instead of an alt tag. How do I add alt tags for the topics within XOT and without having to go through the html?

The attachment shows the tabbed navigator+ menu topics and code with missing tags.

Any advice would be great,

tia

If you can use Lego, you can use Xerte

There isn't - to my knowledge - an optional property for adding alternative text to these menu items in the interactive list. The same is true for similar navigation features like the left hand menu in Tabbed+ navigator pagetypes. So if you wanted to add something it would be at code level. And I can't answer any questions on that because I don't know the product at code level, just at ordinary user level!
Sorry!

Is there a specific issue you are trying to address that need that additional text? Like providing extra information for users before they decide which to click on? Or were you hoping to use images in these slots instead of text? If the latter they need to be added in the dialogue box using simple htm <img src=".."> and at that point you CAN add ALT=".." - all done via standard text dialogue box in toolkits. I generally don't show people how to use additional html in the dialogue boxes because if they're not familiar it freaks them and I'd rather they used XOT to get basic interactive resources with solid accessibility than get scared away but anyone happy to learn a few simple tags can start to make their XOT resources sing.. (ok, maybe not exactly sing but look pretty good)..

I don't think you can currently add alt tags to the interactive list page but you mention the text and graphics page so just to clarify...

anywhere there is a plain text box where you can select some text and right click and select hyperlink that's so it's easy for users to do that without adding any html themselves. However when a link is added in that way you could also add tit;e="your tooltip" to the end of that link code so that when the user hovers over the link they will see your tooltio. e.g. something like This is a test of ALT text on a <a href="xerte.org.uk" target="_blank" title="link to the community site">plain text page hyperlink

I guess that might get stripped by the forum but let's see!
